Unity stack SRU for Ubuntu 16.04: Help verify!

Hey all,

As part of our regular maintenance work we’ve been doing in the Unity stack, we’ve just pushed to Ubuntu Xenial proposed repository new versions of packages for compiz, nux, unity, unity-control-center and Ubuntu themes with various fixes.

Now, this update is quite big in terms of fixes it brings (27 bug fixes), and includes some refactories. So, to speed up the release to the majority of the Ubuntu users, please help verify this SRU, enabling proposed repository and checking that the proposed fixes work as expected.

For convenience, here’s a list of the bugs to go through and verify:

• Bug 961679: gtkrc is producing light menus from dark elements
• Bug 1311316: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock
• Bug 1316862: Panel mouse events don’t make the fade-to-blank stop
• Bug 1321075: It’s impossible to exit from screensaver if a menu or an application grabs the screen
• Bug 1504870: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in unity::menu::Manager::Indicators() when trying to switch to full screen game crusader kings II
• Bug 1530277: gtk-window-decorator incorrectly draws the title bar if GDK_SCALE is set
• Bug 1532508: Screen shown briefly after opening closed laptop lid, before even unlocking
• Bug 1575452: Copy/move dialog cannot be switched to in Xenial
• Bug 1600389: Keep the screen locked if autologin or nopasswdlogin is enabled
• Bug 1606369: Compiz ‘Thumbnail Window Previews’ artefacts (further fix +)
• Bug 1609845: sudo ubuntu-sdk … open project … click to file right key mouse “Show Containing Folder” . a folder shortcut in unity sidebar is not active
• Bug 1614597: LIM Menu keyboard navigation is broken when mouse enters in new menu
• Bug 1618405: Adjacent menu opens when moving from an indicator icon to its dropdown menu in LIMs and Lockscreen
• Bug 1622995: /usr/bin/compiz:11:sigc::internal::slot_rep::slot_rep:sigc::internal::typed_slot_rep:sigc::slot1:sigc::slot:unity::launcher::Options::Options
• Bug 1637991: Force quit dialog is misplaced on hidpi monitors
• Bug 1645507: Unity crashed on oif::frame::Property::GetProperty
• Bug 1649736: unity picks poor hidpi scale factor defaults
• Bug 1659847: /usr/bin/compiz PluginClassHandler:PluginClassHandler:unity::UnityScreen::OnTerminateSpread sigc::internal::signal_emit0:sigc::signal0
• Bug 1664205: Copy-paste and text selection doesn’t work when caps-lock is on
• Bug 1666359: Lock screen doesn’t cover entire desktop on HiDPI display with draw-user-backgrounds unchecked
• Bug 1668950: Unity doesn’t provide an easy way to enable/disable the low graphics mode
• Bug 1671432: Global application menu does not follow mouse move for displaying submenus in multi-monitor setups
• Bug 1673950: Tooltips in the Unity launcher have a wrong padding and position
• Bug 1700600: Appearance settings changed in normal mode, aren’t properly updated when using low-gfx (and vice-versa)
• Bug 1700859: Some effects are still present when low-gfx mode is enabled
• Bug 1702297: Compiz ignores _MOTIF_WM_HINTS set from xprop
• Bug 1702701: If the background file does not exists, the lockscreen draws a transparent background

Wow! Is it going to be for Xenial only?

The short answer is ‘No’: SRUs are high impact bugs that are already fixed in the current development release of Ubuntu…and are often already in the current interim release. You can check the Launchpad bugs for specifics.

SRUs bugs have clear test cases, to make testing easy.

I HAVE PROPOSED ENABLED NOW, Bug 1664205: IS FIXED FOR ME, I CAN COPY/PASTE WITH CAPS LOCKED PRESSED

Unity 7 fans - we still need a lot of these checking. If you have a few mins to spare, please test some and update the bugs accordingly.

After installing and reboot I can’t access the top panel and the launcher (not visible). Shortkey don’t work neiter the special keys (volume up, volume down ecc . And a login request to google popup. No windows decorations and I can’t drag windows around…i can open the terminal so if you give me some comand I can test it…

Iv’e tested some of the test cases and for the most part it all works well, that which I use.

Thanks Dale. Forgive my laziness in not checking the bug reports, but have you updated the relevant bugs with a verification status (per: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Verification)?

If folk have tested a bug and found it fixed, please follow those instructions so that we know it’s done. If you are looking at a bug report and see that the tag verification-done then please try a different one.
