Should Ubuntu Codenames be named by Ubuntu Community?

I just made a twitter post asking Shuttleworth if he will do a 19.10 codename, but I was thinking, what if the community decided the codenames for the next future version?

REMINDER: HERE IS HOW THE VERSIONS ARE DIVIDED:

19.04 - Last two digits of year made, and month made
Disco Dingo - An alliteration, that goes in alphabetical order. (E would be 19.10, F is 20.04.)

I don’t think this is a good idea myself.

If Mark [Shuttleworth] wants to do it, I have no issue with this at all. He is still personally funding a lot of what makes Ubuntu so great, let alone the running polls & allowing them to be open & seen as fair takes resources that could be better utilizied in my opinion.

Do note that 19.04 has not been released yet, so this week would be extraordinary early to declare a next release name. Look for it in 2 weeks or so.

Choosing the name is one of Mark’s prerogatives as SABDFL, and one he seems to relish.
There have been several movements for community choice of name over the years. All have been met with a gentle-but-firm ‘no’. It might take some convincing to get him to let anybody else choose the name.
