Mesa 17.2.4 broke Unity for older generation intel

Mesa 17.2.4 broke Unity for older generation intel cpus. 17.2.4 just landed on 16.04 (how it passed the tests?) and also on artful proposed.

Please try to reproduce in bionic if you can.

Seems to have high impact on users of AskUbuntu:

What all they should do? They need official assistance and guidance.

I’m fine, I’m using MATE DE.

I noticed in one bug report that was i3 processor. Not so old. Have no such problems on my 16.04 boxes or 18.04 ubuntu-unity-remixes.

edit:

Does not seem to affect 18.04 boxes with unity7/ppa even though mesa - 17.2.4 is installed.

@khurshid-alam

I want to try an experiment. If I install 17.10 32bit will ubuntu-unity-desktop run on it?

I installed ubuntu-unity-desktop on 32 bit for bionic, it works fine. Although I am using mesa 17.2.2.
