I don’t think we’ve had the chance to evaluate the new Applications panel yet.
Because the current implementation depends on libflatpak which isn’t in Ubuntu main, I don’t know if we’d be able to offer this panel in Ubuntu 19.04. But it’s a bit early to know for sure on that.
If you are comfortable with jhbuild, you can check out the wip/applications branch and take a look. Here are a few screenshots:
Most apps don’t show much at all:
I have the Chromium snap installed. It works but doesn’t show much either. (The link to Open in Software doesn’t work for Snap apps; it looks like it doesn’t know the correct identifier for the app.)
Non-snap apps that have GNOME Shell search providers have a toggle for that:
