Applying for lts status - Ubuntu Budgie

Good day everyone,

Is the process documented somewhere what a flavor must do to apply for an LTS status? I was searching over on the wiki, and the results seem to be more so “what” an LTS is. I had seen some wiki entries that seemed to be proposals for what the LTS support terms, etc would be. Since this is our first LTS release as a flavor, we would like to be sure that we are not missing any details.

I’ve appreciate the feedback.

I believe you want to talk to the Technical Board - seems what has been done in the past is to make a proposal and take it to them - like the Ubuntu GNOME team did:

The link I would expect to work, now goes to this site - (Ubuntu Governance ehttps://wiki.ubuntu.com/TechnicalBoardAgenda). Will follow up and see if I can fix that.

Fixed link, but it doesn’t provide more info.

Could you (or another representative of your flavor) email the ubuntu-release list with how long you would like to support your 18.04 flavor for?

For reference, here is the 16.04 discussion.

There is Technical Board Meeting on Dec. 5th on irc. The unity7 maintainers team is applying for official flavor status. You can insert your item into the agenda and perhaps you can learn more there ?

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve added my topic there. We will see what comes of it.

Hello @jbicha - Just getting ready to submit the proposal. In IRC (last meeting), it was stated to send the plan to the “TB mailing list”. I, however, could not find a list for that when looking on https://lists.ubuntu.com/. Here you mentioned the ubuntu-release list. Considering that is where the last discussion took place, is that what was meant? Is ubuntu-releases the proper place to submit? I have seen that other flavours had built out a wiki page as well (so I will do so as well).

edit - wiki draft up. UbuntuBudgie/18.04/LTS-Proposal - Ubuntu Wiki

I then later found technical-board@lists.ubuntu.com listed on TechnicalBoard - Ubuntu Wiki.

TLDR: Do I send the proposal to ubuntu-release (as per where the discussion happened for 16.04), or the TB mailing list as per the recent TB IRC meeting? Or both?

Once clarified, if I have permission, I will add to the RecognizedFlavors - Ubuntu Wiki page for future flavours.

Thank you in advance.

I think it’s fine to email the Tech Board directly. Once there is a Tech Board decision, it would be good for someone to follow up on the ubuntu-release list for the benefit of other Ubuntu Flavors (who should be following the ubuntu-release list).

Feel free to improve the wiki!

Thanks @jbicha! Will do. We are just drafting out our final proposal.

Appreciate the direction.

@jbicha we pretty much have our draft done and sitting in the wiki. Is there a need to put ourselves on the agenda with the next technical board IRC meeting? Or is just submitting to the technical board email address and the release mailing list sufficient?

Current draft is sitting at: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBudgie/18.04/LTS-Proposal

Thank you.

Hi @Wimpress - I’m just pinging you in case Jeremy is on Holiday plus you are on the TB. Any comment on my previous question?

Thank you.

Thank you.

I’m not on the tech board, sorry.

Well that’s embarrassing. I am not sure why I thought you were. Sorry to have wasted your time. Appreciate the response!
