Just ran a fly through of a bare metal install of 18.04.
What was interesting is that the installer won’t let you continue without a valid network connection, however there’s no option to include a VLAN tag once you’ve configured the address on the interface.
Is this a bug or was it overlooked at build time seeing as though this release is heavily focused on cloud instances?
Yes, this was a known limitation of the next gen installer (subiquity) at 18.04 launch. But it’s now fixed with 18.04.1. Give it a try.
