Microsoft Arc Touch Bluetooth Mouse

Specifically this one: https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-us/products/mice/arc-touch-bluetooth-mouse/7mp-00011

Has anyone gotten this mouse to work with Ubuntu reliably?

For several Ubuntu versions now, I’d not been able to get the mouse to work at all. It’s been very frustrating. Finally, with Ubuntu 17.10, I’ve been able to get the mouse to pair sometimes. Sometimes, it refuses to pair, or it’ll pair but still not work.

Any ideas? We’ve come a long way with Linux/Ubuntu but Bluetooth still has been a lingering issue for me.

Microsoft says “Connectivity - Bluetooth 4.0 enabled devices” so you might need a newer version of BlueZ, like the one in Ubuntu 18.04. You should also check your bluetooth dongle/wifi card supports Bluetooth version 4.0.

Try live booting 18.04 as a test: http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

Also, some community members are likely to close this topic because the hub is not meant to be for technical support. I suggest you log a bug instead, by running:

ubuntu-bug bluez

which I will be notified of.

I pull the daily so that makes sense. I’ll give that a try. I’ve been hearing “use a newer version of BlueZ” which each release and nothing so far.

I have a Dell XPS 13 (9350) Developer Edition. That has Bluetooth 4.1.

I’d like for this forum to be for support and everything else. Anyway, if it doesn’t work with Ubuntu Bionic I’ll file a bug. Thanks.

I know it’s annoying being told you’re using the wrong forum, but it does make sense… This community hub is for collaboration between a large number of people and as such should contain topics which potentially involve many people each. If everyone reported bugs relating to a single model of peripheral here then the forum would be overwhelmed by bug reports, drowning out the intended group discussions.

I agree. I wasn’t suggesting we report bugs here. Support is different from bug reports.

I’ve moved this to the https://community.ubuntu.com/c/support-help-requests category because this site isn’t designed to take tech support questions. Sorry. I’d recommend using one of the official support channels listed on the https://community.ubuntu.com/t/finding-help/712 page.
